Import of MARC-21 ISO-2709 and records in other formats

The dialog to import MARC-21 records is shown below. Such records may be downloaded

  • from a web site or another network library and stored locally, or
  • from the Library of Congress (LOC). The second icon on the dialog connects
to the LOCs catalogue search page on the Web.

It is possible also to convert records in other format (CCF, CDS/ISIS). However, since
such databases are not always identical in structure and content, special programming
is needed for converting records in such databases to the internal MARC-21 compliant
NewGenLib structure.

The capability to import records from other formats, e.g., UNIMARC and other MARC
formats, is being built as of date (Mar 1, 2004).

Once the record is downloaded, it is selected and then the 'Edit' button is clicked to begin editing
the imported record using either the MARC-21 or the General Template.
